New Naira Notes: Tinubu not behind governors rebellion against Buhari ~ APC PCC

The campaign council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected claims circulating on social media that its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, instigated some APC governors to ignore the President's directive. The statement, released by the Director of Media and Publicity for the APC Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday night, dismissed the fake news spread by an online platform.

The statement affirmed that the information did not come from the APC-PCC Adviser on Media and Communications, Dele Alake, as being claimed. The post alleged that Tinubu ordered APC governors to disregard President Muhammadu Buhari’s broadcast and implement the Supreme Court's ruling on the recirculation of old naira notes.

The statement insisted that Tinubu never gave such a directive and that Alake never issued such an advisory on Tinubu's behalf. According to the statement, Tinubu has been calling for calm since the currency swap crisis began and has suggested a six-point approach to alleviate the people's pain in obtaining money from banks.

The statement added that Tinubu had several meetings with President Buhari on the matter and that he would not instruct APC governors to disregard Buhari's order. The governors, who have acted in line with the Supreme Court's ruling, acted independently and without Tinubu's influence, according to the statement.

APC said the publication by the Peoples Gazette is fake.

The statement further called on the online publication to take down the story, and journalists were advised to exercise restraint and verify their materials before publishing them.
